Bob and Julie began life as two little characters my son, William, invented when he was small. Every night, he would make up stories to make his younger sister, Georgia, laugh. She couldn’t quite say their names back then — “William” became Willum and “George” became Dord — and those sweet mispronunciations quickly became part of our family’s storytelling magic.

The adventures William created for his sister grew and grew, often inspired by real moments from our own lives… including the unforgettable day the back fell off our caravan. Those memories, mixed with childhood imagination, are what shaped the Bob and Julie books. Today, their world continues to grow — full of fun, family, and the kind of everyday adventures children love to read about, shared with the hope of bringing a little more joy into homes and classrooms everywhere.

The author behind Bob and Julie is me (Claire) — mum to William and Georgia. I dreamed of becoming an author when I was a child, but never imagined it could truly happen. That changed when William created the characters Bob and Julie and challenged me to turn his stories, and our family adventures, into books for young children. The ages William and Georgia were when these stories were first imagined are the same ages as Willum and Dord in the books, keeping the heart of their childhood firmly at the centre of every adventure.

To bring Bob and Julie fully to life, I was lucky enough to persuade the incredibly talented illustrator Megan Thorn to join our adventure. She took our characters and transformed them into the vibrant, joyful figures you see today. Megan exceeded every expectation, rising to every challenge and capturing the heart of each character with warmth, imagination, and stunning attention to detail. Her artwork has become an essential part of the Bob and Julie world, adding colour, charm, and a little extra magic to every page.
