Bob and Julie and the Musical Bugs

Bob and Julie and the Musical Bugs began with a perfectly ordinary evening… that took a wonderfully silly turn.

Georgia (or Dord, as she’s known in our house) burst through the door mid‑FaceTime with her friend — the one who is famously sleepy and spends more time horizontal than a hibernating hedgehog. I jokingly asked if she had “the bedbug” with her, because honestly, the boy could nap for Britain.

Georgia spun her phone around and there he was, not snoozing at all, but proudly plucking away on his bass guitar.
“Well then,” I said, “he’s not a bedbug… he’s a musical bedbug!”

Cue giggles.

He immediately sat up (a miracle in itself) and declared that I had to write a Bob and Julie story about musical bugs. Not just any bugs — oh no. These bugs needed top hats, spats, and a full insect orchestra, each one playing a different instrument. And because William and Georgia are both music‑mad — guitar and singing respectively — he insisted it was the perfect challenge.

So I accepted.

One evening, one cup of tea, and a lot of laughter later…
Bob and Julie and the Musical Bugs marched, buzzed and boogied their way onto the page.

And that’s how a sleepy FaceTime call turned into a story full of rhythm, mischief, and very fancy insects.
