The end of the beginning ...what every indie author learns fast!

People often assume the hardest part of being an author is writing the book. It isn’t. Writing is the joyful part — the part that comes from the heart.

The real challenge begins afterwards.


Finding an illustrator you can afford. Learning how to format your book. Navigating the publishing platforms. And then, once your book is finally out in the world, discovering that visibility is the biggest battle of all.


Marketing is a maze. There are countless people offering help — for a fee. Author groups filled with mixed messages. Advice that contradicts itself. And a constant pressure to “stand out” in a crowded market.


I’ve made mistakes. I’ve paid for services that weren’t worth it. I’ve tried ads that may or may not work. I’ve done school visits that were wonderful… and then heard nothing afterwards.


But I’m learning. I’m growing. And I’m not giving up.

Because every indie author is on this journey together — figuring it out one step at a time, fuelled by passion, persistence, and the belief that our stories matter.
